Little Dennis Blockhouse
In the late 1530s is was decided that a blockhouse, which became known as Little Dennis, was built as an interim measure so cannons could be quickly put into place to defend Carrick Roads whilst the larger fort on Pendennis Head was under construction. It once had several gun ports facing the sea but these were replaced with a single port for a single large gun. During Elizabethan times, the blockhouse was extended into a small fort which included three batteries at sea level and a drawbridge. This continued to be used until the 18th Century.
