Circular walks visiting Porthmeor beach

The beach at Porthmeor, Cornwall

Porthmeor is Cornish for "big cove" as it's the largest beach at St Ives, and consists of golden sand. It is often referred to as "Porthmeor beach" and although the appended "beach" is technically redundant (given that the name already means "cove"), it does serve to distinguish it from Porthmeor Cove, not so far away along the coast near Morvah. Porthmeor beach faces north into the Atlantic so it gets some reasonable surf.

A circular walk at St Ives along the granite coastline and white sandy beaches which have inspired so many artists, through some of the most famous parts of the town including the harbour, The Island and The Tate, and via the church and holy well of Celtic girl Ia who, according to legend, was the first to settle here.
