Review: Regatta Burrell Men's Walking Boots
The Burrell boots have a suede-like finish which is a bit smarter-looking than the classic leather Bainsford boot. Some of the leather boots such as the Trespass Walker can suffer from crazing and peeling of the outer glossy surface which is unlikely to be an issue with these. The price point of both these and the Bainsford counterpart seems a little higher than some of the budget leather boots, but still a lot less than the high-end brands.
The boots are definitely waterproof. I was a bit sceptical about the suede-like finish so as soon as I put the boots on, I found the nearest massive puddle and stood in it (boys will be boys). I was pretty impressed that the muddy water rolled off just like "ducksback" fence waterproofing. Nice.
The boots are very comfortable and didn't need any breaking-in. We walked for a couple of hours over rocky terrain on day 1 and they were absolutely fine.
The soles are Vibram and seem a bit less grippy than the Samaris III boots which use Regatta's own sole technology which is perhaps a bit softer rubber. However, they do seem better than the harder Vibram soles on HiTec Eurohikes which make me feel like I am walking on an ice rink.
We'll update the review once they've had another season or two of wear to see how they last, but so far, so good.
