Veryan Roundhouses
The thatched roundhouses in Veryan were built by Rev Jeremiah Trist in the early 19th-century with a crucifix placed on the top of each. They were located in pairs either side of the roads entering Veryan to stop the devil entering the village. A fifth, roofed with slate, was built beside the school. The round design was said to be so that the devil could not hide in the corners.
