St Ives to Carbis Bay

A circular walk from St Ives through the Steeple Woods nature reserve to the monument overlooking St Ives Bay where the eccentric quinquennial ceremony of John Knill has been performed for over 200 years, returning along the coast via the white sandy beaches of Carbis Bay and Porthminster.

The iWalk Cornwall app includes a map of the route showing your location on it and which way you are facing. It also includes detailed hand-written directions for the route physically checked and kept updated by ourselves and a group of volunteers, and information about the wildlife and history at each point along the route. OS Explorer maps are a useful addition for navigating around any temporary obstacles or short-cutting routes, bearing in mind that in Cornwall, some paths shown on the OS maps are obstructed, non-existent or don't correspond to the actual location of the path on the ground.

OS Landranger maps are not recommended as these don't show field boundaries, making it very difficult to locate paths (waymarking in Cornwall is often very poor once you venture off the coast path).
